The world famous Annapurna trekking route is safe, says a report prepared by Miyamoto International, a global structural and earthquake engineering firm. The report was commissioned by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and funded by UKAID supported program to access the damage caused by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake of April 25 and subsequent aftershocks to the popular tourist destination.
The report submitted to the Tourism Ministry on Thursday shows that the earthquake only inflicted a little structural damage on the infrastructure along the route. Only 3 percent of the total 250 accommodations along the trails have suffered minor damages that can be easily repaired, while all 30 bridges along the trail are safe, the report states. Likewise, only 250 meters tracks were damaged.
Addressing the program organized by the Nepal Tourism Board to unveil the findings of the report, team leader of the study and CEO of Miyamoto International Kit Miyamoto stated Annapurna circuit covered by the study are largely undamaged by the earthquake and landslides triggered by it.
The findings of the report have been deemed vital to spread the message to the world that Nepal is safe to visit.
