Cadres of dissenting parties tried to disrupt a public hearing in some suggestions collection centres in the Valley.
Police charged lathis and held six students affiliated to All Nepal National Independent Students Union –Revolutionary a student wing of the Mohan Baidhya-led CPN-Maoist after student leader Birendra Basnet demanded that the CA be scrapped and warned that they would further escalate conflict in the country.
General Secretary of NNISU-R Uttam Adhikary claimed that six students, including Basnet, were held for around an hour at Metropolitan Police Circle Kamal Pokhari. He said the students were first grabbed by NC cadres and then CA member Gagan Thapa had directed security officials to oust them from Agrawal Bhawan at Kamal Pokhari.
People were forced to go through thorough checking to enter the premises.
Outside Baneswor Banquet, RPP-Nepal cadres burnt copies of the first draft of the new constitution and chanted slogans demanding Hindu state, during which demonstrators clashed with police.
At Basantapur also, RPP-N cadres clashed with police when they tried to disturb a public hearing by chanting slogans and tried to hurl chairs towards CA members. Police took control of the mob after some time. CA members Nabindra Raj Joshi and Radheshyam Adhikari were conducting the programme.
At Jorpati, a joint team of CPN-Maoist and Federal Socialist Forum chanted slogans against the draft constitution and the 16-point agreement and tore copies of the first draft of the constitution.
Government official Laxmi Marasini said an RPP-N cadre, who tore the draft at Jhor of Tokha Municipality was ousted from the venue and therefore the cadres of Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist could not tear the draft today. School students also provided suggestions at Jhor and Kavresthali.
