Several vehicles torched, vandalized; over dozen banda enforcers held
Banda called by CPN Maoist led by Netra Bikram Chand 'BIplav' has affected life in the Kathmandu Valley since early morning on Friday.
Most vehicles have remained off the road and businesses and educational institutions are closed.
Banda enforcers have torched a bus in Jadibuti of Kathmandu and a Scorpio vehicle with number plate Ba 7 Pa 3857 in Radhe Radhe of Bhaktapur. Likewise, a Maruti van (Ba 7 Pa 7839) and a car (Ba 13 Pa 203) were vandalized in Lokanthali and Sanothimi, Bhaktapur respectively and a deluxe bus in Maharajgunj.
Meanwhile, police has heightened security in the Valley and has held over a dozen cadres of the party who were forcefully enforcing banda from different parts of the Valley including Chabahil, Koteshwor and Baneshwor. Among those held by the police are the party’s leader Tilak Pariyar and Chairperson of ANNFSU revolutionary Sharad Rasaili and central committee member Chiranjibi Dhakal.
CPN Maoist has called the banda to protest against the 16-point agreement signed between the top four parties, the draft of the new constitution and trade agreement between India and China involving Nepal's territory Lipulek.
