Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, Kathmandu Division has asked the management of the Park View Horizon apartment in Dhapasi to resubmit its 'Detail Damage Evaluation Report'.
The Department had sought the report from the apartment after it sustained severe damages due to the 7.8 magnitude earthquake of April 25 and subsequent aftershocks. Following the quake, a team of government engineers assigned by the Division had conducted a safety assessment on the apartment and categorized it into 'red' meaning it is unsafe to use.
Chief of the Department's Kathmandu Division Buddhisagar Thapa told Setopati that the Division asked the apartment to submit the real account of the damages after the report it submitted was found to contain false details.
"The report submitted by Park View Horizon is not valid," Thapa said. "It deliberately hides the truth about the damages. It doesn’t even contain the damages recorded by our team."
According to Thapa, a Seismic Capacity Evaluation Report that will be prepared based on the 'Detail Damage Evaluation Report' will determine whether the apartment can be repaired by retrofitting or it should be demolished.
Park View Apartment suffered severe damages including big cracks in its pillars and beams by the April 25 quake. The residents in the neighborhood are living with the fear of the apartment collapsing upon their own houses.
