The Gunners chased the £40million-rated Real Madrid throughout the recent transfer window.
Arsene Wenger was keen at the time to add a world-class striker to his ranks.
However, the Gunners missed out on the opportunity to bring the Frenchman to the Premier League.
Benzema ended up committing his future to Real.
Spanish paper El Confidencial claim Benzema dropped little hints over a move away from the Bernabeu.
And it was thought Arsenal held talks over a move for the striker.
Gunners club legend Ian Wright admitted his disappointment over the summer saga when he recently said: "The whole Benzema thing was quite embarrassing for us. [Because] of the way they pursued it.
"If your trying to get a player like that you find straight off from the bat are you interested in coming.
"Whether that's you knowing someone who knows him and ask are you interested and if your interested we'll pursue it.
"The way they dealt with that was pretty bad in the end. The way he mugged Arsenal off on Twitter [by saying] Real Madrid my home wasn't nice."
