US copter crash probe still on: NA

KATHMANDU, MAY 28 - The Nepal Army (NA) has said its attention has been drawn to media reports that five injured people who were rescued by a chopper from Dolakha have not been traced yet, and that they might have been killed in UH-1Y Huey helicopter crash in Ghorthali of Sindhupalchok district on May 12.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Army said it has been searching for the five people from Laduk and Lamidanda VDCs of Dolakha who were reportedly airlifted from Singati on May 12 for treatment in Kathmandu . The Army also said that it had retrieved more human remains from the crash site on Monday. The NA had  earlier stated that six US marines and two NA personnel were killed in the US helicopter, which was carrying out the relief and rescue operations in Dolakha district.
The US Embassy in Kathmandu said it would not like to comment on the matter, saying “we have nothing to add other than our thoughts and prayers are with the families (of those who reportedly are missing).”
The NA statement said the additional human remains have been brought to Kathmandu for further investigations. It added that DNA tests were being conducted on them to see if they match with the remains of eight personnel of NA and US Marine Corps killed in the crash.
“The investigations are still on to ascertain if there were anybody else on board the helicopter apart from the NA and US Army personnel,” read the statement.
“A joint team of the NA and US Army is investigating to find out the reality through DNA tests.”
