Int’l stars willing to play: MCA prez

KATHMANDU, MAY 27 - President of Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) Mahinda Vallipuram believed several international stars will turn up to play BatforNepal charity match scheduled for Kinrara Oval in Malaysia on August 9.
Malaysian cricket is organising the match between Nepal and World XI to raise fund for the victims of April 25 earthquake that killed over 8,000 people in Nepal. Former Sri Lankan World Cup winning stars Sanath Jayasuriya and Roshan Mahanama have already expressed their willingness to play the match.
On a two-day visit to Nepal to give a proper shape to the charity match, Vallipuram said: “We are in talks with several cricket boards across the globe. Australia have already said they will help us in our initiative. We  are waiting for the response from the International Cricket Council (ICC).” Vallipuram is accompanied here by MCA Vice-President Nordin Abdullah. Vallipuram also inspected the TU ground and met with national team players including skipper Paras Khadka.
CAN Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bhawana Ghimire and MCA President  Vallipuram signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) here on Tuesday, which agrees that the funds raised to  go directly to the Prime Minister  Disaster Relief Fund with a component going directly to cricket governing body to ensure the (TU) cricket ground be rebuilt over the next two years.
“We had the opportunity to discuss the details with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and representatives of the PM’s office. We are pleased to see that the government has done a lot to improve the problems caused by the earthquakes and we mush have confidence that the PM Disaster Relief Fund is the best recipient of the funds,” said Vallipuram.
CAN CEO Ghimire said: “We are pleased that Malaysia sent a delegation to finalise and sign the agreement in Kathmandu , the fund raised will be used for the reconstruction.”  CAN and MCA have also recently released a logo for the BatforNepal charity. The fundraising match which will also include a fundraising reception to allow people to meet members of Nepali cricket team and a business forum to highlight business opportunities between the two countries.
