Death toll from Great Quake put at 7,611

KATHMANDU, MAY 05 - The number of confirmed dead from the Great Earthquake that struck the country on April 25 has been raised to 7,611, Home Ministry said on Tuesday evening.
According to the latest update provided by the Ministry  this afternoon, the number of people injured in the quake has reached 14,556. As as many as 10,718 government buildings were destroyed, while 14,741 houses sustained partial damages.
Similarly, 191,058 houses belonging to the people have been levelled to surface and 175,162 are partially damaged. Based on 2011 census recording 5.4 million houses across the country, the damage constitutes 7.15 percent.
The worst hit district is Sindhupalchowk which recorded 2,911 casualties, while Kathmanduwitnessed 1,202 and Nuwakot 904, said the Ministry.
