KATHMANDU, MAY 06 - The International Cricket Council (ICC) has postponed Nepal’s opening round fixtures of the ICC World Cricket League Championship (WCLC) against Scotland on Tuesday.
Nepal were originally scheduled to play at Scotland—both home and away fixtures—on June 10 and 12 but after the 7.9 richter scale earthquake hit Nepal, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) had requested the world cricket governing body to reschedule the date for the fixtures. On Tuesday, the ICC issued a statement confirming the opening round of fixtures between Nepal and Scotland rescheduled for July 25 and 27. The ICC, however, has given no reason over the rescheduling of the fixtures with the venues yet to be confirmed.
“The country is in a state of mourning due to the earthquake. We had requested the ICC to reschedule the fixtures asking for the dates after the 2015 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers,” said Bhawana Ghimire, CEO of the CAN. The World Twenty20 Qualifiers will be jointly hosted by Scotland and Ireland from July 10-23.
The WCLC is a 50-over tournament between the top non-Test playing ICC Associate nations that will also serve as the qualification programme for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers. United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Papua New Guinea, the Netherlands, Namibia and Kenya are other teams in the WCLC. Each team in the WCLC will play two matches and with points system separating the teams in the standings, top six will qualify for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers.
