Nepal will at least try to replicate on their 2014 success when they take on the USA in theICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers in Belfast, Northern Ireland in a few moments at 7:00 NST today.
Nepal made their maiden appearance in the biannual Twenty20 World Cup in Dhaka in 2014. Despite winning two of the three first round matches, Nepal failed to make it to the second round, pipped only by net run-rate by hosts Bangladesh, who also had two wins and a loss.
The two teams have met on several occasions in the ICC World Cricket Leagues but have never ever played in the Twenty20 interntional. To add to the spice this time around, more than half the current squad members are new for the Nepali team.
The victory would be crucial for Nepal in their bid to qualify for the 2016 World Twenty20 as it can set the tone for the whole tournament.
Nepal are pitted against holders Ireland, Papua New Guinea, Hong Kong, Namibia and Jersey in Group ‘A’ and require to finish at least inside the top four in their group to fancy their chances for the 2016 World Twenty20. Top two teams from each of the groups directly qualify for the 2016 tournament while four other berths will be determined through playoffs.
