Writ petition filed at SC seeking constitutional guarantee of right to willful death

A writ petition was filed at the Supreme Court on Thursday, demanding that the constitution make provision that ensure citizens the right to willful death.
Advocates Uttam Prasad Rijal and Tankahari Dahal jointly filed the writ petition, arguing that provision of willful death was essential for people who are forced to live life in coma or other extreme health conditions.
As the constitution has guaranteed citizens the rights to live dignified life, the citizens should be guaranteed the right to have willful death, the writ petition states.
It further argues that it is the right of human beings to end their life rather than live in unconscious state for long or languish in pain.
In the writ, the advocates have mentioned the Constituent Assembly and the Legislature-Parliament as defendants.
